VOULA SEASIDE

VIEW APARTMENT

Location: Athens, Greece

Property: A two-bedroom apartment with three bathrooms and a playroom

Client: a private family home with two young children

Project Overview

A complete remodel and redecoration that left just one structural column in place and nothing more, this modern apartment in the affluent Athens suburb of Voula was taken completely back to brick. Reconfigured to serve as a principal family home, it now balances practicality and panache thanks to an improved layout and overall sense of light and space.

Aesthetic Direction

Muted and zen yet warm and welcoming with Mediterranean textures and earthy tones, this family wanted to carve out a space that felt grown-up and impeccably chic but with a definite sense of inviting anyone within it to lean into the space and relax.

Material & Colour Palette

Specifying a very specific warm neutral Bauwerk shade that draws out the golden notes of the Athens daylight, Meraki carried it through to every room. The same applies for the natural wood flooring. Wide oak floorboards in a natural honey hue create warmth and a palpable sense of calm that flows through to every connected space. Ribbed washed wood, travertine tiles, marble (from Spanish Crema Marfil marble to Brazilian Santa Clara), Vratsa limestone, glass and heavy linen are the predominant other materials which together make for a grounded, harmonious home.

Noteworthy Features

  • The wraparound balcony has been cleverly zoned with a relaxed seating area, a play space for the children, dining and even an outdoor kitchen and potting section for herbs while cooking

  • A bank of shelved storage in the principal living area looks as though it is textured wall panelling but is in fact a ceiling-to-floor bank of concealed storage to hide the paraphernalia of family life

  • To further protect the minimal aesthetic, Meraki specified the sleekest electrical elements such as an extractor that is hidden in the polished marble worktop and a fireplace that is discreetly encased between a low timber chimney cover with a glass front.

“Made the whole renovation process less overwhelming and enjoyable. I have my dream forever home and its all thanks to Meraki.”
